Well, it is here!  The last day of school is today and I am so excited to spend the summer with all my kids.  As a work-at-home mom, I have spent the last 14 years working up to this moment – the time when I can still do my work, and be home to raise my kids.  Mind you, this is not for everyone, but it absolutely works for me and my family.

After years of stressing when I don’t have either time for work or time for family, I have come to the realization that my best is good enough…it may not be the ‘best’, but it is my best, and good enough – everything gets done (eventually) and everyone has fun!  I can’t live everyday thinking that I didn’t play enough with my kids or work hard enough at my business, so, at the end of the day, I say “good enough…tomorrow is another day.”

We beat ourselves up so much and carry guilt and stress – but years from now the kids will only remember the day you went to the beach, or the day they got to stay up late to watch fireworks…this matters.  Do what you need to do – be proud of what you do and love what you do…everyday!  Enjoy the time, however much time you have with your kids, and treasure each second.

Here are my “Top 5 Ways to Make the Most of Summer”

1.  Do something new and interesting everyday.  This could mean, taking a different way home from soccer, flying a kite at the beach, having a picnic in the backyard etc.  It doesn’t have to cost money, but this small thing will be different and fun for the kids.

2.  Keep it Simple!!!  Don’t spend all your time in the kitchen preparing meals – get the kids involved and keep meals simple…BBQ or picnics…perhaps planning ahead with cold salads etc.

3.  Get the Kids Involved.  Kids need chores at any age.  Make a chore chart and stick to it.  When you have less to do, that’s more time for fun.

4.  Team Up.  Invite friends over or meet in the park and talk about sharing craft or activity ideas.  The kids love being with other kids and the stress of planning the activities for the day can be shared.

5.  Slow Down.  This one may be difficult to do if you are used to running all the time…but try and remember that as much as you like your free time, so do the kids.  This is the time when magical things happen – forts get built, plays are acted out and swings in the hammock lead to light naps and happy kids (and parents).

Enjoy the summer!  If you have some ideas on how you are going to make the most of your summer, please share them here by commenting below!

Until next time!

Thank you so much for stopping by this page to get to know a bit more about me and why I started Parent Guide Inc. My business story started a way back in 2001... …after the birth of my first daughter, I realized that an "all-in-one" resource guide for parents was needed, and fast! I designed the New Parent Resource Guide to fill a gap in the community for busy parents like myself. The New Parent Resource Guide offers an A-Z of key contacts for parents, caregivers, service providers, and health care professionals.  Working with key businesses and organizations in the community, we have also compiled much-needed articles, tips, and charts to answer all your parenting questions. The latest addition to our family is the School Age Resource Guide to serve parents of children, 3 to 18 years!  This guide answers questions about: nutrition, bullying, curriculum, building self-esteem, and much more, as well as offering a full directory of local and national resources. The Parentguide.ca website offers an “all-in-one” spot for parents to connect, add their own blog, and find needed resources in their community.  It is a site that educates and entertains and if you can't find somthing just ASK me. I am here to serve YOU!  My hope is that you connect with our members, find comfort in their words, and share your own story. My goal is to see what I can do to help make life a bit easier for you.   You are why I do what I do! I can’t wait to get to know you!  Comment below to tell me about yourself – then start blogging so we can find out what makes you get up in the morning!  Check out my blog too and I am sure you will be surprised what gets me out of bed each day!!!
